Lexia

Lexia is a tool that I have chosen to explore out of my own interest. I interviewed a kindergarten teacher and she said this technology is something that her student's use every single day.

What is Lexia?

Lexia is a technology that teaches and assess students about literacy. Lexia is a tool that is being used in many  Spokane school. Teachers are required to have their students use this technology 15 minutes a day. Lexia uses several different methods to teach their students. There are matching games, pattern games, and games to work on spelling and reading. It can teach students with all different learning styles. This is why I believe this technology is versatile. It is also a very easy technology to use. Kindergartners are using this technology every day without having many issues. They have also made the login process for easy for all students to use. Each student is given their own QR code and Lexia will scan it and log the students in. The other really cool part about Lexia is how it makes each student feel special. When a student reaches the next level, Lexia will send an email of a certification slip to the teacher that she can present to the class.

I definitely think I will use Lexia in my future classroom whether or not it is required. I have witnessed how much these kindergarteners are learning just from a few weeks of using it. It also provides the teacher time to set up her next lesson while the students are using Lexia. I also love seeing students confidence growing when they reach the next level.

How it relates to TLC and SAMR/PICRAT

Lexia relates to the learning aspect of the TLC framework. This technology's main purpose is to teach student's literacy. Students are learning all aspects of literacy, and are being tracked on how much they are learning by reaching new levels.

  1. I love how you branched out and got this technology first hand from a teacher in the Spokane school district. I also really like that Lexia celebrates the student moving up in levels by giving them a certificate to print out!

  2. I have also been witnessing students use lexia in the classroom and have been wanting to know a little more about it and loved the explanation you gave. The flow of your paragraphs was really nice and the points you brought up convinced me that I want to use it in my future classroom as well, whether or not its required.
